Ashtonunderlyne is a town in Greater Manchester, England. It lies on the south bank of the River Irwell, in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside. The town is 2.7 miles (4.3 km) east of Manchester city centre and has a population of 45,198, according to the 2011 census.
Ashtonunderlyne has a rich industrial heritage, having been home to several cotton mills and coal mines in the 19th century. Today, the town is a popular residential area and is served by two railway stations, Ashton-under-Lyne and Ashton West.
