Green Cove Springs is a city in Clay County, Florida, United States, located 16 miles (26 km) southwest of Jacksonville. The population was 6,908 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clay County.

The city is named after the portion of the St. Johns River that forms the western boundary of the city limits. The river bends here, and the area is sheltered by trees that are perennially green. The area was first inhabited over 7,000 years ago by natives drawn by the warm mineral spring. The spring, locally known as the "Original Fountain of Youth", attracted guests in the 19th century. Today, the sulfur-scented spring water feeds an adjacent public swimming pool before flowing the short distance to the St. Johns River.

Green Cove Springs is conveniently located near the intersection of Interstate 95 and US Highway 17. The closest major airport is Jacksonville International Airport, located approximately 25 miles from the city. Amtrak's Silver Star train runs through the city twice a day, connecting it to the rest of the country. Public transportation is available through Clay County Transit, which operates seven days a week.

The city is located on the banks of the St. Johns River, offering visitors the opportunity to take part in a variety of recreational activities. Boating, fishing, and swimming are all popular activities, and there are several public boat ramps and marinas in the area. The city also boasts several parks, including Magnolia Park, which features a playground, walking trails, and a fishing pier. Visitors can also explore the nearby Kingsley Plantation, a historic plantation site located on Fort George Island.
